In pursuit of this, we refrain from genetic engineering, source products from our own regional cultivation and rely entirely on 100% green electricity. 1990
Takeover of the Thüringer Nahrungsmittelwerk Erfurt and launch of the Erfurter Nahrungsmittelfabrik in Erfurt.
2004
Establishment of a new production facility to manufacture organic ready meals and tinned stews.
2012
Significant expansion of the operating area through the construction of a logistics centre and expansion of the production area by 50%.
2017
Opening of a second location “NABA Lab” in Berlin Mitte and entry of the second generation of the entrepreneurial family.
2018
Opening of the newly constructed office building in Gierstädt.
2020
Production capacity for sandwich spreads is doubled.
2022
EMAS certification as part of a consistent sustainability strategy.

The entrepreneurial family

At work across generations

NABA is a family-owned business, now in its second generation. Following German reunification, founder Bernhard von Reiche moved back to central Germany, where his family is rooted; he farms there with his father and brother. He recognised the significance of family entrepreneurship early on and continues to exemplify it today with his three daughters. His wife Friederike von Reiche recognised the importance of organic food before it became a widespread trend; the first organic spreads, for example, were created in the early 1990s. Since 2017, the couple’s three daughters have upheld these values. Felicitas von Heinz, Victoria and Donata von Reiche successively joined the company’s daily operations and are now responsible for different areas within the company. With an increased focus on topics like sustainability, contemporary dietary trends and digitalisation, the daughters bring the concerns of their generation into the company, driving its development. “Employees today have different needs than they did 20 years ago, and working and management styles are changing. The cross-generational management of NABA is valuable because we can learn from each other and develop with the times,” says Managing Director Felicitas von Heinz. The family’s collaboration thrives on open communication, mutual trust and the willingness to make bold decisions together. This is how they are expanding NABA as a 360-degree organic food company.
